    Learn how to handle claims to the best advantage as the claimant, how to minimize losses by being proactive as far as recoveries from third parties are concerned. Knowing that even if you have insurance, you need to act at all times as though not insured.

    Course Outline

    Module 1:

    Initiate action in the event of loss or damage to cargo within carrier’s time bar limitations.

    Carrier’s conditions of carriage are identified and carrier’s time bar limitations specified
    Notice of loss or damage to cargo is sent to all parties in accordance with organisational procedures
    Confirmation of receipt of notice of damaged cargo is received from all parties.
    In the event of damaged cargo an inspection is done and noted, photographs taken and filed in accordance with standard operating procedures.

    Module 2:

    Endorse documentation for the purpose of preserving rights of claim.

    A Notice of claim to be lodged is processed in accordance with standard operating procedures.
    Responses received from all parties are noted and filed in accordance with standard operating procedures.
    Follow-up with client is undertaken is taken in accordance with standard operating procedures

    Module 3:

    Communicate with affected parties.

    The client’s price claim is submitted to all affected parties.
    Responses received from affected parties are noted and filed in accordance with standard operating procedures.
    Correspondence is maintained on an ongoing basis between all affected parties within the carrier’s time bar limitations.

    Module 4:

    Initiate and finalise claim action.

    Final notice is sent to all effected parties requesting closure and finalisation of the claim.
    The claim is concluded with all parties in accordance with all parties in accordance with standard operating procedures.

    Module 5:

    Maintain appropriate records.

    A file is maintained of all correspondence from the initial notice of damage to the final letter of settlement.
    All photographs, press reports clippings, and surveyor’s reports are kept in accordance with standard operating procedures.
    All correspondence is filed in accordance with standard operating procedures.

    Course Materials

    Participants will receive a detailed course workbook.
    Certificate of Competence given to all who complete the assignments.
